🖊️ introduction to Groover + what it is:
Beginning of May, I had a message request in my DMs on bonnieslegends. That usually means two things: musicians telling me about their new release or musicians asking to be on my podcast. Surprisingly, it was neither. Groover, a platform connecting media with labels/artists, reached out to me, interested in having me represented as a music curator. Of course, I was hyped about it. A few days after a call, sending them my statistics + setting up a profile, I was in!
📀 new album & EPs releases:
GENESIS by Brigitte Bonin — inspired by Johnny Cash Bonin wrote a song (and released an album) that Johnny probably would listen to himself; especially because of the melancholic sadness of the lyrics and bass harp keys.
Julie Neige by Patrice Geffroy — as a big fan of big saxophone solos in songs, of course that’s one of the reasons why I enjoyed Geffroy’s music so much.
Hollow by Bloomer — the last track of their newly-released album brings an emotionally loaded choruses that make this song a perfect song to listen to while driving on the Autobahn having life realisations. Put it on the next time you’re on the road.
💿 new song releases:
Bourbon by Midwest Royal — outlaw-country inspired music with lyrics talking about the financial and social decline of our society against the chill and cosy instrumental track.
Copy And Paste by Duplexity — “How do I remove all the empathy? (…) Maybe I'll just keep searching" - the LA-based rock duo focuses on their latest release on “mental health and accepting responsibility in the quest for a more satisfying life”.
The Train by Karen Turley — added magical and ambient instrumentals to lyrics finding comfort in the every day, produced, mixed and recorded by Turley herself.
It’s Getting Kinda Hot by Curtis Lovejoy — this song stood out to me due to its guitar riff being able to stand on its own without intertwining with the vocals and still matching together. There's a spirit in this song that makes you think and also feel optimistic, like what we need in the world right now, isn't it?
Der Sound unsres Lebens by TEYNA — a mix between German music legend NENA and the vocals of Alanis Morissette, TEYNA brings out a recognisability in German music’s land and we hope we’re gonna hear more of her soon.
Pietrosella (Dogs Hold The Light) by VENIN CARMIN — Shocked to see this was released last month, not sometime in 1987. I could’ve totally seen this being performed at American Bandstand or Top of the Pops next week.
LOVE ME NOW by Glazed Curtains — boy this was a delivered surprise in our inbox. This song is the perfect transition from rock to punk. High vocals, catchy melody and a fire guitar solo are all bringing together the hot energy of this song.
Nouvelle chanson by Andy St-Louis — a French-sung country song with spoken bits, the way it was custom in the 1950, there’s so much life in this song.
Bound To by Lucky Kilmartin — We absolutely can’t wait for Kilmartin’s album coming out this month. If you enjoy this one below, please make sure to pre-save/order it. It helps reaching the attention it deserves :)
i want i want by Andi Fins — major vibes of Mac DeMarco or Thumpasaurus, this song is giving indie chill 80s vibes, the kind of song you discover at a random bedroom pop playlist on Spotify.
Stolen Bike Blues by Oscar Peris — with Peris’ Spanish-musical background, you can groove to this rather blues “Americana” song. Your head will bop while listening to this one.
Cold Comfort by Michael & The Pentecost — this band did something that is so rare in today’s music land; giving the single a b-side + unique lead vocals with an interesting song structure.
Meine Freundin Jacky by Manou — Manou describing her latest single as “dark, thought-provoking and polarizing, and that is intentional” nails it. Bringing this feeling to life with powerful vocals and almost intimidating guitar riffs makes it so good.
Seagull by Pappa L — As a fan of the original by Bad Company, Pappa L made it possible to reinvent the song with a full band.
In The Wind by The EMC - a groovyness to the track with addictive guitars, drums creating a rhythm you wanna skip down the street The band’s mission to bring back 90s music back is fulfilled.
Where I’m From by The Jankeys - this song will make you feel like watching a home-taped video of your childhood, the lyrics reflecting on where one’s belonging and coming from.
Dark Clouds by Backstrom - Perfect for a crisp Autumn night, it'll remind you of the feeling you have on a road trip when your friend is driving, so you can just look out of the window and daydream while listening to the tunes from the radio.
Stummer Hilfeschrei by katie drives - the soundtrack to the same-titled short film portraying the feeling of helplessness with one’s feeling and witness mental health struggles in people one loves. katie drives describing her music as a rebirth of 2000s German pop-rock matches it well.
When You No Longer Hear Me by Otis Kerp - we are pretty much in love with the way the instrumentals all merged together fluidly in this song. Our favorite part though was the end, especially as it talks about our days running out one day, with only the acoustic guitar, the piano and the pedal steel accompanying Kerp’s vocals.
Checking Out The Girls by Steve Moyse - hitting the Southern accent as a Brit in his latest-released single which has real earworm quality. Maybe you’re gonna catch yourself singing along to it.
Yoga Surfin’ by Stefie Shock - a really energetic song reminding one of The Beach Boys with a pinch of late 1990s pop. Stefie Shock’s latest single is one to add to your dancing playlist.
✨ the end:
This is a pretty good selection + can’t wait to listen to all the upcoming submission that’ll come my way through Groover.
Thank you for reading this article and I hope you leave with a lot of new artists to spin on either your next drive at dawn or bedroom dancing session or simply just now with your headphones on :)
We’re changing our layout to weekly editions, merging our Groover submissions (newly released tracks and recommendations) together. Look out for the first round this week already!
