🖊️ introduction to Groover + what it is:
This July, I was given the opportunity to join Groover, a platform representing media outlets, music magazines, as well as independent artists and record labels, and offers them a way to connect and communicate with each other without an algorithm and the social media lottery. Since then, I’ve been busy listening to a lot of music, new and old, by both represented artists and independent ones.
Twice a month, I’ll be sharing with you tracks that either are new music releases or music recommendations, that have been submitted to me through Groover. If you want to receive guaranteed feedback and sharing not only from me, but also other media outlets, radio stations and podcasts, sign up here!
📀 album & EPs releases:
A small particle of luxury Volume 2 by The Nigel Purcell Trio — this trio has been releasing music since 2011 and their track Please be has something to it. The several different instruments in the background with the guitar and vocals in the front, the harmonies during the chorus fit perfectly and gave the song an ambience of calm and sweetness.
She Ate My Red Glasses by Riffindots — Recorded and mastered in Hendaye France with accusatory harmonies (including lots of reverb + echo), and post-wave and psychedelic rock sensibilities, this album is all the grooviness you need to cheer up your mood.
Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid by Shady Brook — This album has songs on it that can be described as the perfect sound mix of modern recorded and traditional country song, especially the drums parts + the sing-a-long quality that made me lip-sync the words on my first listen already.
Baise Platine by Sébastien Delage — Delage’s vocals sounding like a reminisce of Angel Olsen, accompanied by fire guitars + sudden synths tension built-ups. Personal highlight: the good telephone/dry-speaker sound effect.
Around the Bend by Grant Nesmith — In a low mood and in need for some lifting up? Recorded on all analog gear the pedal steel, acoustic guitar solos, old western accordion and Nesmith’s vocals in Nesmith’s album will help you feeling a little more optimistic about life and what’s to come.
HEARTSPACE TIMEPIECE by Alejandra O’Leary — Wanna feel like you’re in a ‘90s rom-com? Put your headphones on and embark on a walk with this album in your ears. Windows has been reviewed as ‘a breezy, wistful country-folk song featuring acoustic textures, dreamy pedal steel, and nostalgic but sharp lyrics’ and can only agree with that description.
One Nine Two Nine by One Nine Two Nine - I've been running around to find where the thrill is; the thrill is right here in this brilliant debut album by Danish singer Sisse Bro and Belgian guitarist and producer Manuel Roland, the duo One Nine Two Nine. In the center, a creative 6-minute long song telling a story that ends in a synth-induced world to escape in.
Regal by Casey Frazier - Frazier’s music is always truly a listening experience. The many different facets of his songwriting make it possible to always hear something surprising during the 10th listen. This album spans from saxophone solos to dance tracks, envisioning cinematic scenes.
💿 song releases:
Beautiful Dream by Izzi Stone — This song has the sound of the 1980s, I'm thinking of Laura Branigan, Annie Lennox and most definitely Kylie Minogue's recent album Disco. Groovy, danceable and joyful - your next dance session awaits you!
Lazzer by Buzzemann — Finding this song immediately reminded me of major Neue Deutsche Welle-times; an era Hubert Kah or Trio were born in. Vocals Stefan Rabb-esque and groovy jazz-y instrumentals, alongside hope- and joyful lyrics. Buzzemann definitely stands out in today’s German music world.
Overture of the Roman God Mars by Sergey Khomenko — In need for a cinematic track ready to help you focus to envision? I can totally picture this track in a historic drama or documentary, maybe as well because of the title, it gives the listener a breakpoint of inspiration.
PS: Happy October! Spooky season is before us & if you’re looking for a book on how people are haunted by ghosts (real ones or the ones from the past), my fiction novel It was her is your perfect next read. Give it a read!
📼 tracks with music videos:
Karma Police by Riot For Romance — Describing this Radiohead cover I’d say about it following: vocals versatile with an interesting + unique touch to it, instrumentals reminding of Blondie's strong guitars. Enjoy :)
Morning Mirrors by Nessi Gomes — To say this music video is a masterpiece is an understatement. It translates the feeling and message of the song perfectly to the viewer/listener + makes only justice to such a good track. Gomes’ vocals are amazing and own the emotions of the lyrics.
Sensibilité by Ti Mai Lan — In this melodic and foot-tapping track, Ti Mai Lan rocks the vocals and optimistic lyrics that help the listener reflect on one’s heartspace, alongside this video that sets us to a calm place of beach and alignment.
Hallo Gott by Koriander — This German band has potential for a long successful journey. Standing out with their Nirvana meets the The Clash sound, addictive guitar riffs and concepts of music videos that are quite peculiar and still fascinating, they’re mixing together a cocktail we’re gonna hear from a lot more in the future.
Sometimes by Asleep On The Couch (feat. Nina Karle) — Bringing slightly back some Summer vibes, this track and lyrics video will make you feel you’re back at the beach, listening to the harmonic melodies and reggae instrumentals.
✨ the end:
This is a pretty good selection + can’t wait to listen to all the upcoming submission that’ll come my way through Groover.
Thank you for reading this article and I hope you leave with a lot of new artists to spin on either your next drive at dawn or bedroom dancing session or simply just now with your headphones on :)
