** this blog post came out on April 30, 2022 via the old website**
After a long and needed break, I am back with a new legend featured in my music blog ‘Oh, Pretty New Music!’.
Beginning of March, Izzy Eyre teased her new single ‘Beg You To Stay’ which led to me asking her for an interview. IME is a rising singer-songwriter who writes, records, and produces all of her music in her bedroom. Besides music, she is also a filmmaker which debut short film is set to premier this summer.
Due to me getting sick and needing time to rest and recover from it, the interview is only released two months later I hope you still like it and enjoy reading it!
Here she is: legend IME!
Bonnie Orbison: Introduce yourself a bit
Izzy: I always loved singing as a kid, and started to learn guitar at a very young age. When I was super young I sang in school talent shows and super small things like that but I was mostly just writing songs in private in my room. In middle school I downloaded GarageBand on my phone and it was a whole new world for me, and what ultimately got me into music production. Since then I’ve become super familiar with Logic Pro and I am able to write, record and produce all of my music by myself in my bedroom. I’ve been writing songs since forever but I only started releasing stuff a couple years ago with my first EP in May 2020. Because of the pandemic (and I was fresh out of a breakup) I had a lot of time, and stuff to write about, so it was the perfect time to start putting my music out. After that I released my single “Luminescent Waves” in October 2020 and then “FIRE (We’re Gonna Be Alright)” last March, but I took a year off to write and figure out what my next move was and now here we are with Beg You To Stay!
Bonnie: What is the title of your upcoming single and when does it come out?
Izzy: My new single is called “Beg You To Stay”, the song came out March 11th!
Bonnie: Describe ‘Beg You To Stay’ in 3 words!
Izzy: Unapologetic, Cathartic, Fun
Bonnie: Does the title have a special meaning?
Izzy: The whole idea of Beg You To Stay is about never begging anyone to stick around if they aren’t treating you right, or if they’re not giving you the benefit of the doubt, being a good friend etc.
Bonnie: What inspired the track? What is the song about?
Izzy: An experience I had with one of my friendships inspired this song. A lot of people think it’s about a guy but it’s actually about a friend who kind of left me in the dust over a he said she said situation.
Bonnie: What did the process of making this song look like and how long did it take?
Izzy: The entire start to finish process of making Beg You To Stay took about a year all together. This is not typical for me, I usually finish my songs in one sitting, or a couple days max but mixing this song was a nightmare I won’t lie, haha. I finished writing the song in December 2021, but it took months and months of mixing to get it to sound the way it does now. We also had the help of Yukon at Blue Oak Mastering to help us master the song, but lets just say I’m really glad its finished and out for the world to enjoy.
Bonnie: What is your favorite lyric line from it?
Izzy: And now that I’m getting older, If you’re not pulling me closer then I don’t want it anyway and I’m never gonna beg you to stay
Bonnie: Where is the perfect place to be for listening to the single for the first time?
Izzy: Definitely blasting it in the car with the windows down. I think any song sounds the best driving down PCH, but really anywhere you can scream the lyrics!
Bonnie: Is there a music video to it?
Izzy: Yes! The music video came out yesterday (March 18th). You can check it out here:
Bonnie: What is the concept of the video?
Izzy: Mauricio Cimino Campodonico was the director and DP of this video and he really loved my flower analogy in the song and decided to center the video around that. We had an AMAZING crew on this video and we’re super proud of it.
Bonnie: Who directed it? Who worked on it?
Izzy: Having Mauricio direct this video was one of the best experiences I’ve had. He took the whole thing so seriously and put his heart and soul into this. It was really cool just being able to focus on my performance because I’m also a filmmaker, so I’m used to being on sets with really small crews where everyones wearing at least two hats and directing my own music videos is definitely stressful so this was an awesome experience. Here is the full list of everyone who worked on it:
Director/DP: Mauricio Cimino Campodonico, Producer: Izzy Eyre, Producer/Coordinator: Cole Emery, Producer/BTS: Johnny Baez, Production Designer: Ethan Kankula, Prop Master: Samuel Caswell, 1st AD: Maymay Natnaree Rungcharoenruayying, 2nd AD: Natalie Brady, Art PAs: Izzy Betz, Kayla Jerri Naldo, Zoë Thomson, Sarina Cali, Charlotte Honrath, Gaffer: James DeAngeliz, Grip: Sam Mendoza, Dyllan Ellis, 1st AC: Matt Foss, Camera/Grip Swing: Matthew Callahan, HMU: Kira Goldberg, Wardrobe Stylist: Hanna Elizabella, Talent PA: Ed Cali, BTS Photographer: Philip Garcia, Producers Assistant: Alena Valetti
Bonnie: Do you star in it? Who else?
Izzy: Yes! It’s just me.
Bonnie: How long did it take it to shoot?
Izzy: Mauricio had the idea for the video months ago but we didn’t start pre preproduction until December 2021 and we shot in 2 days in early February, so we pulled this off super quick.
Bonnie: Any honorable mentions you wanna make?
Izzy: Honestly, everyone who helped on the music video deserves an honorable mention. Oh, and the puppy on set, Indi
Bonnie: If you’d have to put the song on a playlist with 5 other songs, which would they be?
Beg You To Stay is out now on all streaming platforms.
