home - Labyrinthine Oceans
Been catching Labyrinthine Oceans’ name dropped here and there during my many moments in Newcastle, UK. Perhaps because my beloved friends I always stay at are musicians themselves and have a quite well-known band, shh it’s The Timewasters, that I have known Labyrinthine Oceans before actually listening to their music. After spotting their username in my story views a couple of times, I eventually received an email regarding their upcoming music. home being the latest single of the band, rather famous for their Slowdive-meets-King Woman sound. I actually didn’t follow them back, so grateful for this email I immediately listened to their catalog of a 5-song-EP called The Deep End, a double single with two live recordings and an already released single, untitled, off their upcoming project.
As soon as home was released and I received the notification via my pre-save (here again emphasising on the importance of actually pre-saving a music release when you’re looking forward to it), I pressed play and got transported into another dimension of my mind. Like psychedelics would carry me on a journey through memories, loss and anger. I as well saw the picture-esque nature surrounding Newcastle and felt suddenly homesick to the place that held and embraced me during times of lostness and anguish.
As the lyrics say:
I won't make it,
I won't make it home
I can't take it,
can't make face anymore
Already fascinated by the sheer of emotions the song is provoking in me, I take out my journal and start writing, reflecting on a version of myself that feels to be so far and near at the same time. Thoughtless, I wander downstairs to make myself ready for bed, getting caught up in pictures sent from my brain to my heart, making me not reflect in words, but with feelings. I am taken back to this me that I embodied during my trips of the past year.
Needless to say, I am excited to listen to more of the shoegaze/midwest emo female fronted Labyrinthine Oceans and maybe even interview them at some point this year.
If you haven’t given your ears the pleasure yet to experience their soundscape, then perhaps right now is the perfect time. Watch their freshly-released music video below & leave us a comment to let us know the flashbacks the song offers you :)
