🖊️ introduction to Groover + what it is:
Beginning of May, I had a message request in my DMs on bonnieslegends. That usually means two things: musicians telling me about their new release or musicians asking to be on my podcast. Surprisingly, it was neither. Groover, a platform connecting media with labels/artists, reached out to me, interested in having me represented as a music curator. Of course, I was hyped about it. A few days after a call, sending them my statistics + setting up a profile, I was in!
📀 new album & EPs releases:
Die singenden Diskokugel by Herr Vorragend — Reminding me of Peter Plate's early '90s music, what you would usually describe as ‘Schlager’ in Germany, goes into a different new direction.
Jersey Ramblers by Jersey Ramblers — another good vibes track, this time in country, but Jersey Ramblers have got a new sound in the genre. At all times on this album, it sounds like the band has fun playing together.
Best buddy for a run by Leo Leonard — all for expressing crush feelings through art that eventually finds their hands. Musically, this song is really mellow, as Leonard himself described it as "melancholic, but the kind that feels good."
💿 new song releases:
Splinter by Kacie Hill — the folk/rock essence of Hill’s new single is a really beautifully take on the haunting fear of losing past memories and staying open for new connections :)
Sunday is Wine Fun Day by Deutsches Sommerkind — so much "Gute Laune" (cheerfulness) in this song, maybe this song will stir up good Summer memories.
City Walls by Sarah Lake — this song’ll touch your heart in a very special way, if you have experienced grief. The lyric "The place I took my first steps, my brother had his last breath" is a real tear-maker.
Biting My Lip by Computer Cowboy — every bit of this song was groovy! a mix between Steve Earle and DEVO, country music with an invitation of the 80s.
Heat Lightning (Daylight Session) by Nathan Storey — Especially with the weather turning grey and foggy, one has the feeling summer's memories slipping away and one has to let go of sweet moments in which melancholy turns bittersweet. This song is a good soundtrack for that kind of feeling.
Killer Lover by Pebbledash — describing their music as "external wall coating enthusiasts playing noisy banshee cowboy rock n roll" and their guitar fading together with strings makes this song compelling not to give it a listen.
Simple Love Song by Blank Page — the harmonic vocals, especially when they merge together, the melodies and the rhythm all make our feet kick to the beat. Give this duo; Jack Robert and Avery Grace, a listen :)
Run Eternal by Basavriuk — mixing great synths of This Mortal Coil and vocals like Cocteau Twins, a lot of guitars shifting around between dimensions; this song is a perfect dreamscape track.
Kingston Springs by Lucky Kilmartin — there was a big LOL moment when I opened up my Groover dashboard and found Lucky’s submission cause I've already added the single of his onto our August playlist and already been very excited about it coming out! Kilmartin has an entire album coming out next month and we feel you should pre-save/order it :)
Perfectly Imperfect by Emmie Lee — Have you ever been on a dating site and thought “wow, this person’s cute…” only to swipe and find it’s a “hell no!”?!; that’s how Lee describes her new single, that stands out the most with a change from the pedal steel (as much as I love them) to a dobro guitar.
📼 new tracks with music videos:
Warmth of the Fire by The Ram — dreamy and transcendent guitars, fire vocals, so rich in its instrumentals, Warmth of the Fire is The Ram’s new rock of a song.
Square Peg by Michelle Aldrich-Goldstein — I love when people return to their passions years (sometimes decades) later, Alrich-Goldstein did exactly that. Watch the lyrics video to this song on the queer experience of growing up in a small village.
Battleplans by The Lonely Souls — "we both got bloods on our hands now": when the studio-recorded song already sounds like a live recording, a lot more you’re excited to see what the band will perform the song on stage. The Lonely Souls’ showed us what!
Miércoles de Barra by Puerto Mariel — I thought it was cool to add guitar solos in a song that was heavy Bossa Nova and R&B, plus this one comes in an interesting structure, like if you’re ready for a change up in instruments, rhythms and tones, this is it for you.
✨ the end:
This is a pretty good selection + can’t wait to listen to all the upcoming submission that’ll come my way through Groover.
Thank you for reading this article and I hope you leave with a lot of new artists to spin on either your next drive at dawn or bedroom dancing session or simply just now with your headphones on :)
We’re changing our layout to weekly editions, merging our Groover submissions (newly released tracks and recommendations) together. Look out for the first round this Saturday already!
